NRG2fly is building a European charging network for electric aircraft. This will create a new, sustainable infrastructure for airports. In this way, NRG2fly is contributing to clean and quiet aviation and making a future in Flevoland!

NRG2fly - makes future in Flevoland

NRG2fly builds European aircraft charging network

'Here lies an ideal foundation for innovation'

When Merlijn van Vliet, NRG2fly's partner, first flew over Lelystad, he saw more than a runway: he saw an opportunity. Flevoland as a young, entrepreneurial and not yet built-up province. Here there is room - literally and figuratively - to pioneer. The ideal foundation for his company, which is full steam ahead building a European charging network to fly planes electrically.

NRG2fly's field of activity is innovative, but also practical: doing, testing, improving. This is where plans are turned into action. The entrepreneur emphasises that Flevoland offers fertile ground for innovation: 'There is so much potential here. With all its facilities (terminal, runways, etc.), Lelystad Airport offers all the space we need to grow our business. It is actually a mini-Schiphol, without all the burdens. And the mentality is fitting: the people are down-to-earth, entrepreneurial and future-oriented."

From vision to practice

Van Vliet sees plenty of opportunities to transform airports into the energy hubs of the future. Not just to fly planes electrically, but to make entire airports more sustainable: from aircraft charging points to electric baggage carts, maintenance vehicles and passenger buses.

Horizon Flevoland supports NRG2fly on a financial and strategic level, as well as by bringing innovative entrepreneurs together. Cooperation with regional partners ensures that not only is sustainability talked about, but that charging stations are actually installed and systems tested.

Future

The future of flying is electric, Van Vliet argues, and Flevoland plays a key role in it. The region has the space, energy and ambition to lead in this transition. 'The Netherlands is a global leader in charging infrastructure. Here in Flevoland, we show that it can also be done in the air. And that attracts companies, knowledge and jobs.'
What once started with the first electric cars is now being extended to aviation by pioneers like NRG2fly. With both feet firmly on Flevoland soil - and eyes on the horizon.
