Story Dorien Coster
There is plenty of work in healthcare. In Flevoland, too, we are looking hard for enthusiastic caring people who see it as their calling to do something for their fellow man. Everyone follows their own path in this. Just listen to Dorien Coster, who is a student surgical intern at Flevo Hospital. Dorien has enjoyed working as a dietician for many years. Yet a year and a half ago, she chose to change tack. She is now in the second year of her training to become an OR assistant in surgery.
About
Medical series
As a child, I loved watching medical series. I wanted to become a pathologist anatomist, but unfortunately I didn't have the right prior education for that. In the end, I chose dietician. During my internship, I was allowed to join the OR. I saw a tube stomach operation and was actually sold on it. I finished my studies and worked as a dietician for many years. It was only last year that I dared to make the switch. I have now been on the road for over a year and enjoy my new profession every day.
Teamwork
Medical technology
I am fascinated by medical technology and teamwork - everyone matters. I pick up the patient from the holding room and take them to the OR. I enjoy that brief moment of contact. During the OR, I hand the instruments, gauzes and clamps. You have to be constantly alert. Where are they now, what do they need? I see and hear everything just to learn as quickly as possible." Dorien can recommend it to anyone considering a career in healthcare. If you want to know more about this, get in touch with Flevo Hospital.
