Story of Flevoland
It takes guts, building an entire province from scratch. Yet that is how Flevoland came to be: man-made land, more than four metres below sea level, protected by kilometres of dykes. And Flevoland is never finished. That's because of that twentieth-century ground underfoot. That does something to the people who live, work and study here. Nowhere is there more room for new ideas than here. Because Flevolanders know: the sky is the limit.

Just do it
Flevoland's three polders make up the very largest piece of man-made land in the world. The Zuiderzee islands of Schokland and Urk were incorporated into the new land when they were reclaimed. Here, things are created that are unthinkable anywhere else. To break the wind, we just build windmills. And if a dyke needs to be reinforced, we do it in a whole new way.
Conceived nature reserves
Conceived land, wild land
Everything was created at the drawing board. The austere farmland. The straight roads. The canals. And also the nature. The conceived nature areas have become wild polder. For instance, the largest wetland area in National Park Nieuw Land or the largest continuous deciduous forest in the Netherlands. In the vast waters that surround Flevoland, we create the Marker Wadden. This way, we attract more fish and birds to the Markermeer. We see that nature is already taking its own course there.
Local food
Green ideals
When the tulip and rapeseed fields are in bloom, Flevoland is colourful. Our local food goes all over the world. And between the fields, people realise their ideals. For instance, by creating quirky and sometimes even edible estates. What we want, we make ourselves. That's how we do it in Flevoland.
Living in space
Live your dream
In Flevoland, you live in a villa or terraced house. Or not, of course. Because anything is possible here. People even build their own houses; it's affordable and much is allowed. Build your own neighbourhood together? Living by the water? Build with friends? Go ahead. Good ideas come naturally here; the wide open skies and young soil under your feet will make sure of that. Because say it yourself: if you can live metres below sea level, you can do anything, can't you?

Entrepreneur, employee, student - everyone wants to grow. Great, because Flevoland offers plenty of room for that. Room for initiatives, room for experiments, for ideals, for careers. For branches, innovations and internships. There is plenty of room and drive, and the lines of communication are short. Feel free to be ambitious, because in Flevoland the possibilities are endless.
Flevoland breathes - the twentieth century
100% now
Not one landscape in the Netherlands breathes the twentieth century like Flevoland. The contemporary polder towns are partly architecture museums, where world-famous architects like Rem Koolhaas helped build them. Experimental designers showcase their work here. And nowhere in the world can you discover so much spectacular landscape art in a single day. The ports and airport are modernising, Orchideeënhoeve became Pantropica and Walibi is building yet another new attraction - the province is renewing in one piece.
Flevoland - incomparable land
Flevoland, at the bottom of the former Zuiderzee, looks like nothing that already exists. Flevoland is distinctly different. Yet you immediately recognise that when you drive into the province. The clear lines, that space, that modernity; this can only be Flevoland.
