Provides logistics and ICT for webshops worldwide
Eighteen months ago, e-commerce company Montapacking opened a branch on Zuiveringsweg in Lelystad. Like their other locations, this branch is expanding rapidly and soon they will even start adding on. Edwin van der Ham is owner and founder of Montapacking: "Our market is growing fast. Before corona, we were already growing 40% annually. In two years, that's exactly double. If everything goes according to plan, we hope to have the new building in Lelystad ready by the end of the year."
Lelystad - gives room for growth
Handling for 1,300 web shops
Van der Ham: "We handle the logistics and ICT of some 1,300 webshops in total from several distribution centres. A number of webshops are added every week. From Lelystad, we currently do the fulfilment for some 60 to 70 online shops. From storage to shipping. We ship worldwide, all under our customer's name and style."
Predicting sales with data analysis
The online market has been growing strongly in recent years. Montapacking's customers seem to be growing even faster. Van der Ham: "Many webshops don't make money because of wrong stock, we help them to have the right stock. With our data analysis software, we can predict 90% accurately how much will be sold and also predict which products will be. This is the reason why our clients are growing twice as fast. We are therefore more of an IT company doing logistics, rather than a logistics company with an IT department."
Near Amsterdam
Montapacking chose Lelystad for practical reasons. Van der Ham: "Most of our branches are in the middle and south of the country. 75% of our customers have their offices in Amsterdam and many of them wanted their warehouse closer to home. Lelystad is easy to drive to from Amsterdam and it is much more affordable than a distribution centre in Amsterdam."
Lelystad's location has another distinct advantage for Montapacking. Van der Ham: "Consumers can order from our customers' webshops until 12am with next-day delivery. Having the sorting station in Almere around the corner is therefore very convenient."
Montapacking is happy with their location in Lelystad. Van der Ham: "The cooperation with the municipality is very constructive and our permit application is also running smoothly. They definitely think along with us. You notice that they like having companies here."
Attractive labour market
Montapacking is also experiencing the benefits of the region in the labour market. Van der Ham: "It is reasonably easy to find order pickers in Lelystad. There are many large logistics companies in the south and we are all fishing in the same pond for good employees. There is a lot more staff to be found in Lelystad."
People are more than just hands
Montapacking employs a total of 1,000 people. 70% of the employees are own people. For peak times, they work with temporary workers. Van der Ham: "People are much more than hands or FTEs. You need them to build your business. We also offer jobs to people with a distance to the labour market. Together with Logistiek Cluster Flevoland, we are now looking at the possibilities for this in Lelystad. We also have very nice logistics challenges for training courses."
